INSURANCE RATING – Union ISO Class 2/2Y
The Insurance Services Office (ISO) rates communities for fire protection all across the United States. Fire departments are rated on an industry standard rating of one to ten, one being the best and ten being no fire protection available. ISO considers response distance, staffing, apparatus, equipment, training, water supply (hydrants), and dispatching when rating a fire department.
If you live in an area with fire hydrants in Union, you have a Class 2 I.S.O. rating, the best rating for residential dwellings. If you live in an area with no fire hydrants in Union, you have a Class 2Y I.S.O. rating. Make sure your homeowner’s insurance provider is aware of your I.S.O. rating.
The members of the Union Fire Protection District take pride in their training. Many hours a week are put into training our personnel to respond to the numerous situations that could be encountered during our calls for service. Some of the types of calls we respond to include the basic calls such as electrical or cable lines that are down from storms, to the significant incidents of working structure fires and vehicle accidents with entrapment.
Training is extremely important for our members in order to keep them up to date on the latest trends in the fire service, and it helps to keep them safer through education and skill building. Training is also required in certain topics for our members to remain as active firefighters with the District because of State and Federal laws. Topics such as Hazardous Materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction training is one such area due to the increased risks posed to First Responders in the case of a terrorist attack or other incident.
Questions or comments about training, please call (859) 384-3342 option 2.
